Six UCT medical students have conducted a research project with TAC. Together with TAC members, they surveyed patients at two health facilities in Cape Town on their perceptions and knowledge of TB and HIV service integration. Below is a slideshow of the students' research.
The results are interesting because they show that patients do want integration of TB and HIV services. Furthermore, the results are pleasing because the perception of patients of the two health facilities, Robbie Nurock Day Hospital and Chapel Street Clinic, was largely positive.
The UCT students followed this up by producing a pamphlet, under TAC's auspices, advocating for integrated HIV and TB services. A draft version of the pamphlet was tested on a TAC focus group. TAC members and the students distributed the pamphlet in Cape Town on 28 February. The pamphlet has been translated into Xhosa and Zulu. When it is finalised it will be placed on the TAC website and distributed by TAC members in other provinces.
