Response Letter from City re Mitchell's Plein Clinic (15 October 2008)

In this response the City Health Department referred the issue to the Province because the facility is "under the authority of the Provincial Health Department as our facilities operate only during the day."

Response letter from Province (18 June 2008)

This letter guarantees the right of refugees to health care at Provincial facilities: "Our policy is not to turn anyone away."

 

Response Letter sent by City (17 June 2008)

This response guarantees the right of refugees to access health care at City facilities: "City Health does not require patients to produce identification documents in order to be seen.  This has been communicated to all facilities."

 

Civil Society Memorandum (13 June 2008)

This memorandum sent to the City of Cape Town and the WC Provincial Government regarding the denial of access to health care at health clinics.  The letter stresses that both the Constitution and South African refugee law guarantee and recognise the right of 'everyone' to access health care, including refugess.
