CAPE TOWN, 1st DECEMBER 2015: Under the leadership of Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi South Africa has dramatically scaled up the provision of antiretroviral therapy to people living with HIV. This has led to a dramatic increase in life-expectancy in South Africa. We have also dramatically reduced the rate of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

The Stephen Lewis Foundation today challenged donors to match its pledge of a one million dollar donation to the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC). The pledge was announced by the Canadian politician, diplomat, broadcaster and leading activist in the global response to AIDS, Stephen Lewis. This was announced at a press conference in Toronto, Canada on Friday morning. It forms part of a concerted effort to ensure TAC’s sustainability for the next five years.

Cape Town/ Johannesburg, 29th October 2015 – The Fix the Patent Laws (FTPL) Campaign, today called on the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to end years of pharmaceutical company price gouging and broken promises for patent law reform and produce a final intellectual property (IP) policy and bill to amend the Patents Act.
