Yesterday over a thousand TB activists marched to the Cape Town International Convention Centre where the 46th Union World Conference on Lung Health is taking place.
Amongst others, the memo asked the BRICS countries to tripple their investment in TB research. Currently the BRICS provide only 3.6% of global funding for TB research while the five BRICS countries together
account for 40% of the world's annual 1.5m TB deaths.

The pledge was announced by the Canadian politician, diplomat, broadcaster and leading activist in the global response to AIDS, Stephen Lewis. This was announced at a press conference in Toronto, Canada on Friday morning. It forms part of a concerted effort to ensure TAC’s sustainability for the next five years.
