TAC analyses President Zuma's 'State of the Nation' address. A positive aspect of the address included the recommitment of government to the NSP targets, although plans for implementation were not explained. Zuma's statement on social grants, however, was disappointing. The Chronic Illness Grant was not tabled as a possibility, despite its necessity in the context of South Africa's dual epidemics of TB/HIV.

TAC Western Cape remembers Rita Edwards and sends out condolences to her family and comrades at the New Women’s Movement. Rita, who died at aged 59 after a brief battle with cancer, was one of the founding members of the New Women’s Movement. She was a grassroots activist, feminist and socialist, as well as tireless organiser. She will be dearly missed.

Furthermore, about 38% of respondents in this age group said that the pill can prevent HIV/Aids! The Pill, wow!!! and 30.4% believe that HIV can be transmitted via a toilet seat (and this is how many years later after the ‘my friend with HIV is still my friend ads)! And About 27% think that HIV infection can be prevented by bathing after sex!!

The Ekurhuleni PLWHA Support groups held a candle light service on the 15th May 2009 at J. Dumane clinic’s community hall, in Vosloorus.
